AVOID OR REDUCE

RECYCLING

Palexpo applies the logic: avoid or reduce, reuse and recycle.

AVOID OR REDUCE

  • Reducing electricity consumption by one third in a decade, rewarded by the
    SIG Nega-Watt prize in 2020
  • Avoiding food waste through accurate consumption statistics
  • Reducing carbon emissions by sourcing 95% of its products locally (avoiding long transport of goods)
  • Reducing water and electricity consumption through automation and programming
  • Encouraging sustainable behavior among exhibitors and organizers
  • Inviting visitors to use ecological means of transportation to get to Palexpo

REUSE

  • 100% use of renewable energy sources: hydraulic and solar, thanks to the 30,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels on the roof of Palexpo. Palexpo is the second largest solar power plant in the country. This installation currently covers the equivalent of the annual needs of 1,350 households.
  • Biomethanization of food scraps, the biogas of which is used to fuel the truck that comes to collect the waste.
  • Offer reCIRCLE reusable food containers

RECYCLING

  • 75% of the waste is recycled. The remaining 25% is incinerated and used for the city’s district heating system, which benefits Palexpo
  • 50% of waste is recycled and sorted on site, the rest is processed by an external partner
  • The exhibition carpet offered to our clients is 100% recyclable

Future goals

  • Become an energy-neutral building by 2030, doubling the solar power plant and saving 1 Gwh of annual consumption through structural improvements.
  • Join the SIG GeniLac network by 2030 for remote cooling of the building using lake water.
  • Achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050: Palexpo has signed the commitment of The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.
